The promenade tramway extension connects to Blackpool North Railway Station.
Extending Talbot Gateway around Blackpool North train station will cost £22 million. Included:
- tearing down the Wilko shop,
- new tramway interchange at Blackpool North Station,
- a new tunnel,
- 4-star Holiday Inn restaurant, and new stores.
To meet the increased passenger demand, two new Flexity2 trams will be introduced.

Talbot Gateway Steel Framing Construction Begins
On June 30, key members of the development team convened on-site to mark the next phase of Talbot Gateway Phase Two. The 4* Holiday Inn and Marco Pierre White restaurant’s initial steelwork is up.
Installing the Holiday Inn’s Steel Frame

The project is set to open in summer 2022. The primary steelwork frame will be constructed during the next few months. Roofing and cladding work will begin in the autumn.
Mike Horner is the Muse Developments Development Director for Talbot Gateway. “It’s great to meet partners safely on-site and see the next phase of the hotel project take shape here at Talbot Gateway,” he said.

We’re excited to be working with the municipality and Robertsons to re-energize the town centre. Together, we’re building a more vibrant, inclusive, and connected Blackpool.
Road Closures and Works
A new underpass will be built beneath the hotel. An exciting new tram terminus will lead into Blackpool North train station.
Blackpool Council’s new £23.4m tram link to Blackpool North train station is on track. The existing tramway will be extended from Dickson/Talbot Road to a new North Station terminus.
Starting July 5th, Talbot Road will be closed for four weeks. Next up are overhead electricity wires and new tram signals. To minimise inconvenience to local businesses and homes, the work will be done overnight.
The extension will add trams to the network and increase service frequency. The extension of the tramway will connect North Station to the Promenade, making it easier for locals to commute. Less noise, cleaner, greener, and more reliable.
